The Weekly Challenge

The Weekly Challenge, 31st May 2021 – CALM TAKEOVER – Familiar, Unfamiliar

It’s the final week of #TheWeeklyChallenge takeover with Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) and #CALMArtCollective. We have spent this month discovering the magic of freewriting, reflecting on our silver linings, using our senses to explore colour and created a museum of us!

As we enter June this week, let’s embrace our comforts through new perspectives.

Think about the things that bring you comfort or feel familiar. Maybe it’s your daily routine, visiting a particular place in your local area, or it could be an object – the cup you always choose to drink from, t-shirt you like to wear, or food you like to eat.

How can you capture the familiar in an unfamiliar way?

If you always eat fruit you could create a drawing but mix the colours up, so the bananas are blue and the oranges are green! Or you could write a poem about a regular place you visit, but from the perspective of a bird that might fly overhead, or take a photo from a different angle of your usual line of vision.

If you have more time…

Capture your familiar in as many unfamiliar ways as you can!

Over the past year, we have adapted to many changes.
What feels familiar now that didn’t in the past?

Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) are leading a movement against suicide, and for anyone struggling with their mental health.

Every week 125 people in the UK take their own lives. And 75% of all UK suicides are male. CALM exists to change this. Through frontline services, national campaigns, and by building communities, they are there for everyone who’s struggling with life. No matter what.
