The Weekly Challenge, 1st April 2019 – 50 in 151st April 2019
Pens, pencils and sense of humour at the ready…This week’s Challenge is set by our friends at Sketch Appeal!
Launched in July 2018 by self taught artist Dulcimer Draws, Sketch Appeal is a creative enterprise which promotes art for wellbeing and the joy of sketch. They believe that everyone can draw and seek to empower people with ideas, tools and opportunities to connect, get creative – and get happy!
The Challenge is to draw 50 faces in 15 minutes – or try to!
The ‘50 in 15’ is one of their signature power-drawing challenges and it’s a great way to blast through block and get your creativity flowing. You might be terrified of drawing faces and worried about getting it ‘wrong’, or you might LOVE drawing faces but feeling stuck in a style rut and/or fixated on capturing likeness. This challenge gives everybody permission to play and give it a go.
Not many people manage the full 50 in 15, but once the timer is up you’ll have the basis of a unique illustration full of curious-looking characters: There’s no telling what or who you’ll conjure up through this challenge…
If you have more time …
What characters can you find in your sketch? Choose one as the inspiration to draw another piece of artwork, or maybe even write a story…! Who are they, what’s their name and where do they come from?
How did you find this challenge? Did you enjoy letting your pencil do the talking? Was this an easy or tricky process, and were you surprised by your creation?
Share your curious characters with the 64 Million Artists team, Sketch Appeal and thousands of other Challengers across the country! Find Sketch Appeal on Instagram and Facebook. Find out more and sign up to their email list at www.sketchappeal.co.uk . They publish a quarterly magazine and host fun social sketching events across London, including Sketchy Bitches: a fast-growing ‘sketchworking’ group for women who love to draw.
