The Weekly Challenge

The Weekly Challenge, 18th October 2021 – Black History

This week’s challenge is from 64 Million Artist’s Community Coordinator, Yashoda Rodgers! October is Black History Month and this week we are celebrating through exploring places, and the stories that can be uncovered within them.

Let’s share our knowledge and learnings and continue to do so all year round…

Choose a location, it could be your city, town or somewhere you enjoy visiting.

How much do you know about the Black History in this area? Is there a local person, building or story you could share or learn more about?

You could research the history online, visit a library or ask friends or family and start a conversation.

Capture what you learn through drawing, collage or a poster. Think about how your creation might inspire someone else to learn more.

If you are looking for inspiration check out TFL’s Black History Tube Map. This reimagining of the London Tube Map features 272 Black figures, who have shaped history in London and across the UK from Pre-Tudor times to present day.

If you have more time…

Choose another location to be inspired by and share more about your learnings of Black History.

Has what you have learnt from this challenge made you see your chosen area differently?
