The Weekly Challenge, 13th April 2020 – Micro Poem13th April 2020
‘Poetry is a piece of alchemy, a piece of magic, and it’s available to all of us’
Creative Manchester are based at the University of Manchester, championing creativity and innovation by bringing educators, civic leaders and employers together. This week, they invite you to get creative with words (and, if you fancy, you can share your poem to enter their competition! Details below.)
Have a go at writing a poem exploring the word ‘climate’ in 280 characters. What does climate mean to you? What do you mean to your climate? Maybe you are interested in the weather, climate change, the environment, or the political climate? What can you say in 280 characters? If you are writing, and not typing, that’s around 45-55 words.
To enter the competition all you need to do is tweet your micropoem, including the hashtag #micropoem20, or send your poem to Creative Manchester by email to firstname.lastname@example.org. The judging panel includes poet and Chancellor of the University, Lemn Sissay.
Find details on the exciting prizes here – deadline June 21st.
If you have more time …
Can you think of, photograph or find an image to compliment your poem? Why did you choose that image?
What did you choose to write your poem about? What did the process of writing make you reflect on? Was it tricky to squeeze into 280 characters or did you enjoy the challenge?
