Day 27: Local Historian
Local resident historian Mr.Collins informed me that this is the location, indeed the very tree/stump, where the first game of “stick and rope” was played. This time-honored game of felling a dead tree without use of powertools was created with duel aims of safety and humiliation…er, humility, that’s the one! You too can amaze and amuse your neighbors: just tie a rope to a stick, toss it until it gets stuck in some branches, then pull the rope and dodge the debris. Note: no living tree was harmed in this game. Sidenote: like our tree, yours may require a handsaw after the trunk is debranched. Also: your children will think you are hilarious.
