Day 21 – write your song
#thejanuarychallenge #64millionartists @64millionartists
This song/ poem just flowed straight out of me this morning. In less than 5 minutes it was written in this form. It was a bit like an out of body experience as I was wondering what it was all about – I don’t have a heartbreak which this could relate to.
Then when the writing was complete I suddenly realised, it’s all about mum and our complex relationship. Tomorrow it’ll be 3 months since she died and I’m sure this song/ poem is part of my grief working out. It’s not reflective of how we were when she died because then we were reconciled; but these words are true of how I felt several years ago when we weren’t talking.

So here it is…
No More Flame

I sit by the shore
Let my mind take flight
It’s you I dream of
Your face in my mind’s sight

Wherever you are
I wish you could hear
I miss you each day
Now you’re no longer near

I’m sorry we said
All those painful words
Did we really mean them?
Most were absurd

Perhaps if you heard this
You’d say just the same
But we’ll never know
Our love has no more flame

No more flame
No more energy
No more light
Only memory
