I was hoping to make something WITH my girls, but they just want to play out on the street with their new friends. Pah!
Here’s a drawing of my lovely Mum, Cathy.
She is actually a lot more smiley and happy than this, and usually has a glass of something fizzy in her hand!
I hope I’m as active in my 60s as she is now – she’s amazing 🙂

This is a bowler hat that belonged to my Great Great Uncle Tom. He owned a farm in Liverpool and wore it when he had to go and see the bank manager. I wonder what he’s make of contactless payments!
I instantly thought of my Grandma for this challenge as she is such a fab lady. I love that she loves leopard print (hence the top!) & then I have drawn below the first 4 things that came to mind… when she baby sat us she used to fill a plastic cup with sweets and hand one to my brother and I ALSO with a crisp sandwich!! Such a treat. The other two are a clock – as my Gran used to always tell stories about time and a high heel as she loves dressing up!
I really like that this challenge has provoked such nice childhood memories!
I struggled with this as I’m planning to play with a few different people and in my family we are quite big on everything being equal and fair so I couldn’t choose a favourite!
So I drew this because it could be of my niece Jasmine (7) or my mum Bron (a bit older than that). I love their big curly hair and I’ve always wished I had curly hair like them. I love that family similarity that spans a couple of generations but none of the rest of us have it, apart from my mum’s mum who is sadly no longer with us.
Drawing also scares me so was much happier spending a few minutes doodling and the rest writing!
Welcome to Day 1 of The Generation Games! Today we embark on a 31 day journey. We hope in this time you’ll discover, create, share and have some fun together.
So with this in mind we thought there’s no better way to start our adventure than with an introduction. Let’s get to know our fellow challengers with today’s challenge….
Create a portrait of your Generation Games buddy or, if you’re playing on your own, your favourite younger/ older person. You can make the portrait by drawing, or using photography, or even just writing a paragraph or two about them.
Use whatever materials you like – it could be abstract or realistic, silly or serious. And remember… it doesn’t have to be perfect! Try and capture them and what you like about them. Have a go and try not spend more than 10-15 minutes on it.
If you have a bit more time…
Why not try creating portraits together of other people you know? You could draw them or make collages? Or go through old photos.
Think
How did it feel to do the first challenge? Was it fun? Did you feel nervous? How did you feel introducing the other person and not yourself? It may be interesting to include these answers in what you’re sharing.
Share
Share your portrait or short story with us. You can share on here and/or on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Of course you can also just share with each other in real life too!

Meet Storm.
Storm is one of my rescue greyhounds (the other one is Mabel). She’s such a cuddle monster and an exceptional garden digger … sigh.
Storm features in A Book of Me as a way to find pages available to print out and use again and again. She’s also in there because I love my dogs to bits and they’re a big part of my life. They make me smile and they give their love unconditionally (well…sometimes for biscuits). Even if the outside world has been tough, I open the front door and there they are, spinning around, tails wagging, pleased to see me.

I’ve had a busy week and although when getting home I felt exhausted I made myself go for a 15 min walk.
It was exactly what I needed! I feel refreshed.
A card made from things in my home
A plea
An action
Some advice
An admission
Tommy’s post it from Andy’s (@Dementia Boy) #DementiaDo post it work
A message of love
Some advice
I think this is a great message for everyone- my Grandma with Dementia but also myself and others. I think we can be hard on ourselves, get frustrated and not sit back and think of how well we are coping.
I think this process has brought me closer to what my Grandma may be feeling, her experience and identity. My understanding of dementia has grown also.
Thank you to everyone involved!
I have enjoyed participating in these activities and seeing what everyone else has produced. marvellous, inspirational
Day 12 – Just For You
I didn’t get home until late evning yesterday, but I have started my Bank Holiday weekend early today. Sitting out in the garden reading and enjoying the sunshine has been lovely.

How great would it be to have a baby goat!? It would be therapeutic to watch it bounce and skip around, be curious and full of life.
I’ve really struggled to do the challenges the last couple of days. We’ve had some really full on work days and I just haven’t prioritised it and that makes me sad. Today I am taking 15 mins more in bed and some time for me, and later on I am going to catch up with what I’ve missed!
My favourite dress! I occasionally feel like Grayson Perry in it which inspires me to invent my own alto ego but usually just love the colours, patterns and vividness. I feel this is the most intense version of style!
We did this challenge as a group. We timed the challenge by giving each person 30 seconds to draw and then we passed the paper to the person to our left etc etc. Each picture is therefore a collaborative effort.
