The Generation Games

I made myself a 'well done me' badge. We made it! I have (as I hope you have all too) really enjoyed The Generation Games. It's brought bursts of fun into my days, has kept me creative and has been a good way to inspire daily reflections. Also when I was younger I really enjoyed drawing but I stopped when I began thinking my drawings weren't very good. This applies to all of the creative challenges - they have allowed me to worry less about the outcome - about being 'good' and more about being creative for fun. Here's to everyday creativity! Well done for reaching the final day of The Generation Games! We've had champion spoon balancers, budding poets, up and coming quiz masters, promising news reporters, super story tellers, joke tellers, hand shakers, cocktail makers. We've had secret agents, scientists, superheroes too. We've seen it all thanks to you! You are an everyday artist - you have completed The Generation Games challenge! To mark the last day and end with an all round congratulations, we - for the last time this August - are asking you to... Make an award for your partner's talent. It could be a badge, a rosette, a certificate...What have they championed this month? You could relate it to a challenge or it could be a more general talent, quality or quirk. Think big or small. Spend some time congratulating them with an original 'well done', an innovative pat on the back, a creative high five! If you're not working with anyone in particular we think you should create one for yourself! If you have a bit more time... Get together a few friends or family and present your partner their award. Have some fun sharing your Generation Games journey. Think Did you enjoy The Generation Games? What was your favourite challenge? Have you learnt anything new about yourself? Share Share your awards with us! We'd love to see your final contributions to The Generation Games. You can share on here and/or on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. You can tag #TheGenerationGames and share with us on: T: @64M_Artists F: https://www.facebook.com/64millionartists/ I: https://www.instagram.com/64millionartists/ Throughout August we have been setting a variety of creative challenges for you to Do, Think & Share. Whether they have been easy, hard, silly or serious - all have asked you to champion everyday creativity, make time for a little fun and share and connect with others from a different generation. After 29 challenges from us and endless creativity from you, we thought it was about time we opened the floor to YOUR creative challenges... Make up a challenge for each other. As long as it includes a Do, Think, Share structure, it could be anything! If it is free, requires little resources and is relatively simple - even better. Then we can all join in. You can find all of our previous The Generation Games challenges on our blog 64millionartists.com/blog/. If you're not working with anyone in particular, send your challenge to family or friends! Encourage them to send you one back. Or send it to us, we are always in the mood for a creative challenge. If you have a bit more time... Write daily challenges for the rest of this week, or a challenge a week for the next few weeks - send these to your partner or favourite younger or older person. Think How was writing your own challenge? Did you find it easy or hard? Will you write and send any more challenges? Share Challenge us with your challenges! Send over your challenge idea. You can share on here and/or on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. What is a group of unicorns known as? How old is the world's oldest piece of chewing gum? What is the tiny plastic covering of the tip of a shoelace called? Have you guessed today's challenge is... Get quizzical - write a quiz for each other. Come up with your own questions or have a look online. Once you've wrote your questions swap with your partner and have a go! How many did you get right? If you're not playing with a buddy, could you save your questions for later? Or share them with us - we'd love to take your quiz. If you have a bit more time... Include different rounds like drawing or music or nature. Be inventive! Think How many questions did you get right? Did you find it easier or harder than you thought? Could you use your questions again to quiz someone else? Share Share your quiz or a few of your favourite quiz questions with us - we'll attempt to answer them! Consider your Generation Games partner - what new things have you learnt about them? What is their favourite song or dance move? What stories or jokes have they told? How many things can they balance on a spoon!? Use this to... Write a poem about each other. We think we are all poets - so don't worry about making it sound 'good', just have a go at writing a few things about your partner. If it rhymes, great - if it doesn't rhyme - how avant garde. If you aren't playing with anyone in particular - write a poem about your favourite younger or older person. If you have a bit more time... Try again using techniques, rhythms and rhymes that match your partner. If your partner is fun and energetic- could you make your poem quick and snappy? Today we have another guest challenge from Magic Me - an inter-generational arts charity that brings people together through the arts. They recently ran a project in London - Stepney Stories - bringing local primary school children together with care home residents to create stories that they then brought to life with shadow puppets. They thought this would be a brilliant challenge to share with you therefore Magic Me are inviting you to... Create your own shadow puppet theatre. To make a screen, you can use a piece of white fabric (like a sheet or pillow case) or white paper. Then you can grab a light – a table lamp or torch. You and your fellow storyteller will be one side of the sheet with the light – the audience will be on the other side. Can you create characters using your hands? What kind of voices do they have? If you have a bit more time... You could create a short story for the characters and add music or sounds and maybe get someone to film it for you? Think Did you enjoy making your shadow puppet theatre? What characters did you make? Did you find it easy or hard? Share Share a picture of your shadow puppet theatre and/or the characters you made. Otherwise you can always just share how you found the challenge. Share with Magic Me on Twitter and Facebook and with us on here and/or on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Breathe under water or talk to animals, be invisible or time travel, have night vision or be able to fly. Set your imagination free and... Make up your own superpower. What would you do? Where would you go? Who would you see? Imagine the impossible and narrate your own magical story. If you're with a Generation Games buddy consider how your superpowers could work together! If you have a bit more time... Draw or make your superpower self. Consider what you'd look like, what you'd wear, what props you'd have and where you'd be. Think How long did it take you to think of your superpower? Had you thought of one already? Did you use your full imagination? Share Share your superpowers or pictures of your superpower self with us. You can share on here and/or on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I took myself out of the office and went for a 10 min walk. Instead of walking aimlessly I had a challenge - it helped me take my mind away from work and have a good break. Today we are inviting you to think about the 5 ways to wellbeing - how we can get active, connect, give, learn and take notice. For this challenge we are going to concentrate on the last way - to take notice, to slow down and see the world around us... Go for a walk and see how many red things you can spot (you can do this indoors if the weather is bad or you are unable to get out). A red letter box? A red wrapper on the floor? A red car? Take notice and take note of anything red you see. You could even take pictures and create a collage with them. Create a digital collage with phone apps such as Mixagram & Collageable. If you have a bit more time... Go on different walks themed by colour. You've done a red walk, now how about yellow? Blue? Compare how easy or hard each colour is to find. Think How many red things did you find? Did you notice anything different about your walk? How do you feel now? Share Share how many red things you saw, a few pictures or a picture collage. You can do this on here and/or on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I thought I was draw about two myths about the brain I hear a lot - that you only use 10% of your brain (nope!) and you can be left or right brained, and creative OR scientific, which is definitely not true - everyone can be both!! I found this one slightly more difficult because it was so open. I imagined doing a dance or singing a song but it didn't quite happen. Here's my cartoon drawing - flying toast-instead. As the title of this challenge suggests, we have something a little different for you today. We have a science challenge set by Lewis Hou, the Director of Science Ceilidh (A Ceilidh is a community gathering, Scottish Folk Dancing done for all occasions). The project is an award-winning educational project bringing people together through science and music. They invite all people to come along and do a turn at their ceilidhs, and celebrate science through dance, poetry, storytelling, music and more. With this in mind they’d like you to... Learn a science fact and do a dance, write a poem/song or tell a story about it. It could be any science fact - about humans, animals, plants, earth, space... the universe is your oyster. Follow this link to find some great facts or find your own: http://m.huffpost.com/us/entry/4344759. How might you respond to your fact? A dance about lightening? A poem about gorillas? A story about cells? If you have a bit more time... Get together with others and share your creative pieces together – can you guess what their fact was? Think Did you learn something new? Was it interesting to think of ways to present new information? Did it make learning fun? Share Share your fact and creative response with us and @fiddlebrain on twitter. We may not always know the programme but we can always sing along to the theme tune. Today we are asking you to write a banger, to write a classic, to.... Write the theme tune to your day! Start with what you are doing. Are you at work? Are you on holiday? Are you loving this Theme Tune Tuesday? There's your theme - now make up a melody to go with it. How catchy can you make your day? If you have a bit more time... Could you make your theme tune into a song? Use the theme tune as the chorus then consider an intro and some verses! Think Was that fun? Did you manage to lighten up your day with a theme tune? Did you find any part difficult? Share Share your theme tune! What kind of music does cheese listen to? R 'n' Brie Although not exactly a crackable code - I enjoyed making up a new symbol alphabet.... as long as I don't loose the key ;) I'm not usually as keen on the poetry challenges as I fear I'm not a good poet. I therefore asked a colleague for help whilst on the tube! We wrote this in under a minute (about our morning swim) - it made the challenge more fun and made me more inclined to do it again! Today's challenge requires a spark of imagination, a sprinkle of creativity and a whole lot of fun. Set by intergenerational arts charity Magic Me, it is inspired by their Cocktails in Care Homes project. With a mission to bring people together through the arts - Magic Me throws cocktail parties in care homes across London on a monthly basis – staffed by volunteers who decorate the venue (usually on a theme) and serve up drinks, fun and conversation. Residents, staff, family and friends all get to enjoy the ‘pub' atmosphere and make new connections and friends. With this in mind Magic Me's generation game is... Make personalised mocktails (or cocktails if you've got That Friday Feeling!) for each other or yourself. Have a chat about what your interests are. What are your favourite flavours, ingredients and drinks? If you were a flavour what would it be? Now come up with a mocktail/cocktail name based on this – maybe they can have puns in them, be funny, describe a place or person, or the ingredients, for example: ‘London Fog’, ‘Moscow Mule’, ‘Snowball’. If you have a bit more time... Theme the table you are serving your mocktail on to match. Magic Me use tablecloths, props, and decorations (bunting, flowers, etc). Take a look at Magic Me’s Twitter and Facebook pages to see the kind of themes they have fun with. Think Did you have fun making your mocktails? What flavours did you associate with which personalities? Did you throw a good party? Share Share a picture of your mocktails along with their names! Most people do not smile until 11.16 on Monday morning. Monday – the least rainy day of the week. Monday is the only day of the week that is an anagram of a single word: ‘dynamo’. Play with what you have on your plate or go rummaging in your cupboards to inspire the food artist in you. What shapes and colours can you use? If you're together you could work as a team or have a competition to see who can make the most faces! If you're apart take pictures and share with each other - did you use any of the same food? If you have a bit more time... Create a family of faces. Could you include yourself and your Generation Games buddy? Think How do you feel after the challenge? Did you have fun looking at food differently? Will you play again? Share Share your food faces with us! You can share on here and/or on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I'd say these are also my favourite items although I do struggle to find a time to wear them so it feels good to get them out! It's interesting how wearing certain clothes makes you feel different... Today we have something to shake off those Monday morning blues, to make you jump out of bed and get your week off to a great start! Whether you're a fashionista or can't wait for dress down Friday - enjoy mixing and matching with a getting dressed challenge... Put on your wackiest outfits and have a photoshoot. Grab anything that stands out. Mix, match, clash - have fun with it. What colours, textures or accessories do you have or can you borrow? Maybe you could find things you wouldn't normally consider clothing - a lampshade hat or a blanket cape? Dress up then strike a pose! If you have a bit more time... Now let the other person dress you. Maybe you could swap clothes? It you are feeling brave - could you wear it out of the house? Think Was it fun to try out new outfits? Do you see your wardrobe in a new light? Will you dress differently tomorrow? Share Show us your wacky outfits or a picture of your favourite item. I found the making really fun too - experimenting with shape and colour. My abstract Friendship Day card! This was a great challenge to take time to appreciate the people around you and really think about how great your friends are. Today's challenge is set by a brilliant guest organisation - Silver Sunday. Silver Sunday is a day in the national calendar, the first Sunday in October, when we ask the nation to pause and think about older people and celebrate their contribution to society. It also presents an opportunity to bring generations together! This year Silver Sunday takes place on 1 October 2017 and there will be lots of great free events to attend. Today being National Friendship day and exactly 3 months until the big day, Silver Sunday would like you to… Make a friendship card for each other. Could it be a thank you card? A card to invite each other to tea? How about a 10 reasons why you think they're great card? Be inspired by what friendship means to you. Swap with your friend or relative or send it in the post! If you're not playing in a team - send to your favourite younger or older person. Let's celebrate each other today. If you have a bit more time... Make something to go in the card. Maybe you could write a friendship poem to slot in or a fun friendship bracelet made from string? Think How did you feel sending or receiving your card? Did the challenge make you appreciate each other more? Share Share a picture of your cards with us. It could be a photo of the front, or even just a few thoughts about how you felt making the card. You can share on here and/or on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. I love dancing to disco music & this Night Fever dance move is my favourite! It's time to shake your tail-feather! Don't worry if you're shy or if you find it difficult to move far, this is a challenge that's adaptable for anyone. Just have a go and see how it makes you feel. What's your absolutely favourite dance move? The dab? The Hand Jive? The Robot? Teach your favourite dance move to each other and have a good old boogie! If you're far away or not playing with anyone in particular, just share the move online or through messaging. Maybe send each other your favourite tunes to dance to? A finger dance is fine or just a little side to side shuffle. Just have a go. If you have a bit more time... Why not make up a full dance routine incorporating your favourite moves? Pick your favourite song and have a go! Think How do you feel after that? Exhausted? Invigorated? Are you a confident dancer or did you feel shy? Share You don't have to show us a video of your dancing if you're shy - but we'd love to see one! Otherwise maybe share the tune you danced to, or some photos.
