The Weekly Challenge

Weekly Challenge, 6th August – O Romeo, Romeo

Wow! What a week of creative energy and enthusiasm for week 2 of our Shakespeare Birthplace Trust challenges. It was great to see such a range of favourite and new-found quotes with paired images that celebrated Shakespeare’s influence and connected his words with modern times. So how can we take the final challenge to the next level? How can we lift Romeo and Juliet off the page and into real life? We thought we could start with one of the most often quoted scenes… O Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art thou Romeo?

Re-create the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet as a photo. You could give it a go by yourself or invite others to join you. If you’re shy think about what else you could use – Lego? Dolls? Playdoh? Watch the scene here for inspiration. Build on your Shakespeare journey and end the trio of challenges exploring a new way of being creative this week. Enjoy!

If you have more time …
Make your still image move! Act out some of the scene. Don’t worry about making it perfect – just begin and see where it goes.

Think
How did you feel before and after the challenge? Did you jump straight into it or did it take some time? Did you enjoy the last three challenges? How did they all compare? Do you feel more connected or inspired by Shakespeare now?
