The Weekly Challenge, 13th May 2019 – #GetCreativeFestival13th May 2019
It’s time to Get Creative! Get Creative Festival (Saturday 11th – Sunday 19th May 2019) is well under way, shining a light on all the great cultural activity that takes place in local communities and encouraging people to try their hand at something new. This huge annual celebration of creativity aims to give everyone the chance to get actively involved in a creative event in their local area. There are hundreds of organisations and community groups putting on events to help you get creative – and they’re free or have just a small fee to cover costs. Check out the interactive map of fun over 1,500 creative events happening around the country here…get involved, and get creative!
Create your own map that showcases the creativity of your local area. Think about the things – the groups, events, landmarks, buildings, people, street art, parks – near you, and find a way of capturing that in a creative way. You could draw and decorate your map, create a photo series, mini documentary, a mind map…it’s up to you. Dig deep to find the creative activity happening that you might have missed – pop into your local library or town hall, look out for posters, and ask others what they enjoy doing in the area. Add the little details about your area that you want others to know and be inspired by. Is there something missing? You could add your hopes and wishes for something new like a choir or a photography group…and perhaps help bring those hopes to life!
If you have more time …
Groundbreaking new research has shown that taking part in even a small amount of creative activity can improve your wellbeing. And now researchers know what’s happening in the brain when you get creative. Take the 10 minute Get Creative Feel Good Test to discover how to reboot your creative hobbies.
How does getting creative make you feel? How could you inspire others to engage with their creativity? How do you engage with your local area?
