April 25. “I’m not just a consumer, I’m a creativist”. This week’s challenge from @64millionartists @globalactionplan was to think about who we are if not just consumers. 9 years ago, I published a manifesto on this topic – The Creativist Manifesto.
It looked at how consumer has become the default way of talking about people. And how the alternative is to reclaim our identities and be a creativist – creating + connecting + acting.
One of the examples I give is baking at home – an act of creativity which brings many pleasures compared to with consuming shop bought goods. There is something within the cake of what William Morris called the ‘Beauty of Life’, that energy passed from one person to another.
And I’m grateful for these treats from @alison.amaryllis of cheese, zucchini and black olive muffins – the latest in a delicious range of variations that we’ve been enjoying.
You can download the manifesto by searching for ‘Creativist Manifesto’. We need more space for creativity in our society.
