#DoThinkShareDAW Daily Challenge, Thursday 25th May - Just for You Today’s challenge is all about recognising how important it is to have time for yourself. Do Spend at least 10 or 15 minutes doing something just for you. Take a long soak in the tub, put on your favourite music and dance around the room, close your eyes or look out of the window. Do your favourite thing. And enjoy it. Think What was that like? Is that something you’re normally good at or do you find it hard to make time for you or prioritise doing the things that you love? Share You don’t have to share if you don’t want to - but maybe tell us what you got up to - or send us a picture of your smiling face afterwards! Maybe it’s a cat that cuddles you, a dog that brings you the paper, or just your fish that you watch through its glass to calm you down. Or maybe it's a completely extraordinary animal, a rhino that gives you lifts to the bank, or a cheetah that picks up your shopping? Let your imagination run wild and see what you come up with. Think Did you enjoy this exercise? Is it something you could identify with? Are you suddenly off to get a cheetah? I absolutely love navy blue, so today I've put on a pair of lovely navy, wide leg, linen trousers. I feel all floaty wearing them, and a little bit French! Recently I've been trying to reduce down all my belongings so I only own the things I love and use most. Did you know most of us wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time? Something I've noticed when working with older generations is an appreciation of style and someone who is well turned out. I dont get it right every day, but i do always think about that before a project. My favourite dress! I occasionally feel like Grayson Perry in it which inspires me to invent my own alto ego but usually just love the colours, patterns and vividness. I feel this is the most intense version of style! #DoThinkShareDAW Daily Challenge, Tuesday 23rd May Our clothes say a lot about us. Whether it’s a signature item or something someone bought for us or the general style of clothes we wear. Or if we don’t even like clothes and we just wear them for comfort. We have a challenge in A Book of Me that is all about identifying your favourite things so that if someone needs to offer you support getting dressed at any time, they will know. Do Pick your favourite item of clothing. Put it on, see how it feels. Think about why you like it, what it says about you, or what its story is? Or is it just that it feels lovely?! Take a picture and tell us about why you love it. And while you’re at it - try doing a twirl! Pose in a mirror, enjoy being silly and dressing up. Think What did this challenge feel like? Did it feel silly? What did you feel about someone else picking out your clothes some day? How might you record what you like? We did this challenge as a group. We timed the challenge by giving each person 30 seconds to draw and then we passed the paper to the person to our left etc etc. Each picture is therefore a collaborative effort. I felt overwhelmed, but I like this bird a kolibri, because it is very tiny, and it has beautifull rainbow colours. It has the freedom of flying from one beautiful flower, to another to feed on the nectar. It is also busy all day doing this. in doing this but also germinating different species and creating new ones. How nature evolves in nature. I drew a Robin my favourite bird I automatically thought of an owl. I like to observe things and see the world pass around me sometimes. I automatically thought of an owl. I like to observe things and see the world pass around me sometimes. I felt excited, I felt like I was an owl doing this challenge. I prefer night time, 11pm, that's when I come out! I like the colours! It's good to see the movement I chose to be an eagle because I love the idea of infinite freedom. In life I make it my mission to always follow my dreams and be free in everything I do. And that's why I chose an eagle because I feel like they're the most free birds in the world. #DoThinkShareDAW Daily Challenge, Monday 22nd May - Dessert Island Today is all about being silly. Sometimes as adults we forget to just let go and have a play. So we recommend, if you can, collaborating with children on this challenge. Maybe you have a grandchild or friend that might help you, either in person or someone you could email, call or text? If not, don’t worry - just come up with the craziest ideas you can. Do Create a desert island made from food. Spaghetti mountains, chocolate rivers, marshmallow clouds, vegetable houses, whatever you like. Take a piece of paper and use whatever you have, actual food, pens and paints, ripped up pictures from newspapers, magazines or junk mail - whatever you have available to create your own desert island made of food (maybe even a dessert island – get it?! Think Does your island have a name? If someone wanted to visit, how would they get there? What was it like to be silly and playful? Liked looking at textures - had to look in the garden as forgot camera when I went on a walk in the woods. Tried to make a collage but failed. - not so great with technology today. Enjoyed seeing colours and textures though. I've done lots of gardening today, so lots of walking around looking at colours. These really caught my eye today though. It's the technology, stupid! Took advantage of daughter Rosi handholding through the process. It doesn't come easy. But I suppose that I should simply believe in the slogan which I've advocated for a time. Many older people have lost confidence in themselves and who they are. Leicester Ageing Together, an organisation I'm involved with, is trying to help older people reclaim older interests and skills and develop new ones in order to flourish in retirement. I love colour! And it made me appreciate things that I wouldn't normally notice (as the wording of the challenge suggested!) and reconsider everyday creativity. Parts of my daily life (working to work etc.) can be a creative journey if you just value small things and things that wouldn't usually be seen to have aesthetic value. Was feeling absolutely shattered today and really needed this little walk to perk me up. Felt like noticing the colours really helped me out of feeling sorry for myself! I took a little walk around the garden, I thought there would be a greater variety of greens, perhaps I should have gone to the woods. I wanted to include some of the colours that are not in the rainbow, like pink. I like the way the variegated holly makes a link between the yellow and green band. I enjoyed being outside, noticing things, and I enjoyed arranging the segment of my rainbow. I do take a lot of notice of colours and textures when I go for walks, and often stop to stroke the bark of trees. But I had not noticed that the bright red berries were already on the holly. #DoThinkShareDAW Daily Challenge, Sunday 21st May - Rainbow Walk One of the Five Ways to Wellbeing is to Take Notice. So often we rush around in our day or we get stuck in our thoughts and we forget to notice what’s around us. Today we’re inviting you to take a closer look at your surroundings. Do Go for a walk (you can do this indoors if the weather is bad or you are unable to get out) and try and spot all the colours of the rainbow, in as many different textures as possible. Take photos of them, or collect objects up until you have enough to make a collage. You can make a physical collage or a digital photo collage using one of these apps: Mixagram Collageable Think What was it like to take notice? Did it make you feel any different? Did it affect your day at all? How do I feel? Much better with a good book and a glass of wine! I stayed at a friend's house last night. We chatted away all evening. It's so good to have a friend who can talk and listen even though she's having a rough time right now. This simple pattern sums up how I feel today. The last few weeks have been really full on and I've been waiting for a bit of nothing time. So far today I've read in bed, been to the farm shop and taken the bears for a long windy walk past some beautiful fields. I'm very lucky to be doing what I do for a living and very sensible about putting things in to perspective, especially during a week like Dementia Awareness Week, so the rest I get today will mean I'm tired up and ready to do my bit for good again next week. Have a lovely weekend everyone. I woke up to a sunny weekend day so I'd say this challenge, with the vivid colours and soft shapes, is definitely inspired by that. #DoThinkShareDAW Daily Challenge, Saturday 20th May - Draw how you feel How is your day today? Feeling good? Having a hard time? What’s going on for you? We all have good days and bad days. Today we are going to take the time to think about that a little bit, but without words, because sometimes words can just make it more complicated! Do Draw how you feel. Pick up a pen or pencil and paper and just start drawing. See what happens when you twirl your pencil round the paper - are you feeling free? Or angry? Or sad? Or happy? See what comes when you just start. Think What was that like? Did it feel strange? Or was it easy? Did it make the feeling stronger? Or did it help it pass? Share If you want, you can share your drawing, but you don’t have to. You might just share how it felt to do it. Whatever you want to share.. Share it on our website dothinkshare.com or on Twitter, Facebook or Instagram using the hashtag #DoThinkShareDAW t: https://twitter.com/64M_Artists f: https://www.facebook.com/64millionartists/ i: https://www.instagram.com/64millionartists/ Don't forget to hashtag #ABookofMe & #DAW2017. Invisible scarfie Visible scarfie Took me a while to decide which bird and then I saw a swallow swooping across the field. Just escaping in my head for a while felt good. Leaving cares behind for 10 minutes was refreshing.
