What kind of music does cheese listen to? R 'n' Brie Although not exactly a crackable code - I enjoyed making up a new symbol alphabet.... as long as I don't loose the key ;) I'm not usually as keen on the poetry challenges as I fear I'm not a good poet. I therefore asked a colleague for help whilst on the tube! We wrote this in under a minute (about our morning swim) - it made the challenge more fun and made me more inclined to do it again! Today's challenge requires a spark of imagination, a sprinkle of creativity and a whole lot of fun. Set by intergenerational arts charity Magic Me, it is inspired by their Cocktails in Care Homes project. With a mission to bring people together through the arts - Magic Me throws cocktail parties in care homes across London on a monthly basis – staffed by volunteers who decorate the venue (usually on a theme) and serve up drinks, fun and conversation. Residents, staff, family and friends all get to enjoy the ‘pub' atmosphere and make new connections and friends. With this in mind Magic Me's generation game is... Make personalised mocktails (or cocktails if you've got That Friday Feeling!) for each other or yourself. Have a chat about what your interests are. What are your favourite flavours, ingredients and drinks? If you were a flavour what would it be? Now come up with a mocktail/cocktail name based on this – maybe they can have puns in them, be funny, describe a place or person, or the ingredients, for example: ‘London Fog’, ‘Moscow Mule’, ‘Snowball’. If you have a bit more time... Theme the table you are serving your mocktail on to match. Magic Me use tablecloths, props, and decorations (bunting, flowers, etc). Take a look at Magic Me’s Twitter and Facebook pages to see the kind of themes they have fun with. Think Did you have fun making your mocktails? Most people do not smile until 11.16 on Monday morning. Monday – the least rainy day of the week. Monday is the only day of the week that is an anagram of a single word: ‘dynamo’. The only film with Monday in its title to win an Oscar was ‘Closed Mondays’ which was voted Best Animated Short Film in 1974. Considering these Monday facts or using your own Monday thoughts... Write a poem about Mondays. What do you like or dislike about Monday's? Could you make an acrostic poem or a limerick? Remember to only spend up to 15 minutes on it. Simply pick up a pen and see what happens. If you don't want rhyme or rhythm - go free verse! If you have a bit more time... If you've tried one type of poetry why not try another? Swap from a limerick to free verse, acrostic to a couplet. Think Could you find the words to describe Monday? Was that easy or difficult? What other day would you write a poem about? Share If you'd like to - share you poem. You could type it up or send us a picture of your page. You can always just share how you found the challenge. This was a great challenge to take time to appreciate the people around you and really think about how great your friends are. Today's challenge is set by a brilliant guest organisation - Silver Sunday. Silver Sunday is a day in the national calendar, the first Sunday in October, when we ask the nation to pause and think about older people and celebrate their contribution to society. It also presents an opportunity to bring generations together! This year Silver Sunday takes place on 1 October 2017 and there will be lots of great free events to attend. Today being National Friendship day and exactly 3 months until the big day, Silver Sunday would like you to… Make a friendship card for each other. Could it be a thank you card? A card to invite each other to tea? How about a 10 reasons why you think they're great card? Be inspired by what friendship means to you. Swap with your friend or relative or send it in the post! If you're not playing in a team - send to your favourite younger or older person. Let's celebrate each other today. If you have a bit more time... Make something to go in the card. Don't worry if you're shy or if you find it difficult to move far, this is a challenge that's adaptable for anyone. Just have a go and see how it makes you feel. What's your absolutely favourite dance move? The dab? The Hand Jive? The Robot? Teach your favourite dance move to each other and have a good old boogie! If you're far away or not playing with anyone in particular, just share the move online or through messaging. Maybe send each other your favourite tunes to dance to? Or maybe a flag. We have had fun discussing our thoughts - one cloud rat was someone else's sausage dog! I really liked this one....this morning the sky was a blanket of cloud, so I wondered how I'd manage, but it also meant that every break in that cloud I saw may not have been a picture, but represented hope. And then, walking home from work, I found a heart in the sky - so much love :-) Really enjoyed how it made me look up and live in the now a bit rather than walking along in a haze. I love playing this game with others.. it's amazing what different things you see and what you can conjure up. Going to try and play this a few times today.. but I think this is a flying pig/unicorn! I really enjoyed this challenge! I originally looked up and thought oh no - I'll be searching for a while but really you just have to use your imagination (as my abstract cloud story telling shows!) If you're wondering - it's Robin Hood in battle with a fire breathing dragon! ;) Whether it's grey or bright where you are, unless you're off on your Spanish hols it's likely you'll see some clouds in the sky today. We all know every cloud has a silver lining, and today's is that they're fun to play with. Have a go at this today: Look up to the clouds and see what shapes you can see. Is there a rabbit being chased by a carrot monster? Or a huge elephant sitting on a balloon? If you're together share your stories with each other and show each other what you can spot. If you're apart take pictures and share them with each other - do you see the same things? Or have you got totally different stories to go along with the shapes? If you have a bit more time... Why don't your try drawing the clouds? Or maybe drawing the things that you see? Think What did you discover about your imaginations? Were they different or similar? How often do you spend time looking at the clouds? Share Show us some pictures of your clouds and let us know what you see. As it is whiskey flavoured chocolate it became more difficult the more we ate ? Great fun, younger generation way better at the game than the oldies. I enjoyed thinking about something creative to balance on the spoon but I have a 3D print out of my own brain so that obviously was a no-brainer - talk about balanced body and mind ;) I've balanced as many words as my teaspoon could handle & enjoyed putting my own spin on a challenge. 56 grapes! I reckon I could have got more on but I ran out of fruit! Definitely good fun trying to come up with something a bit different to balance on a spoon!! It looks so effortless on the picture but I'd say this was maybe the 5th attempt (I do blame a slightly wonky apple though ;)). A good patience & determination challenge - fun & silly too! This was part of my family's challenge.. I am definitely winning so far! I have challenged my whole family today to play this game.. having a family whatsapp group has meant we speak to each other most days which is nice, and they're all pretty competitive.... This is my entry - 61 paperclips on a spoon. It was a great start to the day and really woke me up! X Day 3’s challenge requires patience, dedication and imagination... and our most loved kitchen utensil. If you’ve ever taken part in an egg and spoon race you may be off to a head start. Today’s challenge is a fun one to try together, or if you’re far away from each other maybe you can get a little competitive and see who can get furthest with this silly challenge.... Balance as many things as you can on a spoon. It can be any spoon - wooden, table or tea. Get creative with your objects - how high can you balance? If you have a bit more time... Make it even harder and embody Einstein’s famous quote: “To keep your balance, you must keep moving...” How far can you walk or run with your spoon? Think How many items did you get on your spoon? Did you find it challenging? Were you patient? Share Share a photo of your spoon towers with us.. You can share on here and/or on your social media channels such as Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. It was so fun to play this again. I'd love to play more games like this - just have a bit of fun and be silly for once! Today I taught Laura a clapping game that was my favourite when I was young. Me and my mum and my sisters would all play it and try and get faster and faster - often ending up in lots of laughter. It made me think about how little time I take out to play.. and how I'd like to teach this to my nieces! Naughts & crosses in the office! And we drew so everyone's happy. Rematch tomorrow?
